How does a drum handling manipulator grip the drum?

With custom gripping tools engineered for the drum: rim grippers, body clamps or tipping attachments, designed around the drum material (steel, plastic or fibre), its size and whether it is open or closed head. The grip is engineered so the drum cannot release under load.

Can it tip and empty drums, not just lift them?

Yes. Controlled tipping and pouring is one of the most common Dalmec drum applications. The manipulator holds the drum balanced through the full rotation, so the operator controls the pour rate precisely without bearing any of the weight.

Is it safe to use in chemical plants and hazardous areas?

Yes. Dalmec manipulators are purely pneumatic, with no electrical motors or control electronics in the arm, and are available in configurations complying with the EC ATEX directives for hazardous zones.
